Getting Here

It is necessary to have a four wheel drive vehicle.

With the new San Jose - Caldera toll highway, Casa Pajaro is less than a 3 hour drive from the airport.  The Costanera (Coastal Highway) is also paved making the trip down to our part of the country a real pleasure.

By Car

- Prior to leaving the airport make sure you have local currency and some small bills (1000 colone denomination) to pay for tolls - Five toll booths totalling 2200 colones = approx. $US 4.00. There is a money exchange next to the luggage carousel in the airport.

- From the airport, take Hwy 1 towards San Jose

- At 8mi/12km, when you see the Denny's sign on your left, take the immediate next right exit

- 1 mi/1.5km, exit towards Escazu. Shortly thereafter you will encounter the first of five toll plazas.

- Highway takes you past Orotina. Take the exit for Jaco

- Continue past Jaco towards Quepos.

- Before you reach Quepos, the highway splits. Turn left.
- Continue pass the Quepos hospital and then the airport.

- At the intersection with the highway to San Isidro on your left. Stay right to Dominical, Uvita, Ojochal

Casa Pajaro is 32 kilometers (20 miles) south of Dominical.  Turn left at the entrance to Cinco Ventanas road shortly after KM marker 174, immediately after the gas station and shopping plaza.  Continue on the road turning to the left at each opportunity.  The street signs are poor in the area and the roads are steep.

The house is 10 minutes up the mountain from the Costanera.

Alternate Route

From San Jose, take the Pan American Highway South towards Cartago, follow sign to San Isidro and to Dominical.
